1.3 Private Rentals- Cars
Travel through Vietnam by car to have the maximum flexibility. You can stop wherever you want, whenever you want. It can be a good option for every traveller if you have enough people to share the cost. There are two options: a car with a driver or without. It is more common to get a car with driver and easier to find.
With a driver
Having a driver has a lot advantages, but also some downsides. When you choose to rent a car with driver, think of following things. First of all, the drivers can become your tour guide or translator, which is nice because they can give you extra information. Secondly, it is common that you have to pay for the meals of the drivers and sometimes also their accommodation. It can also distinguish you from the locals and other travelers, because you usually travel alone or with your company.
Without a driver
It is difficult in Vietnam to hire a car without a driver as a foreigner. If you find a company that allows you drive, you must have an International Drivers Permit (IDP) and local insurance.
The daily rent is between 600,000 and 1,000,000 for the average car. It depends on what kind of car you want. Keep in mind that you still have to pay for the gas and that if you take a driver, you have to pay him as a guide, meals and sometimes accommodation.
